Big Bird, Supergirl, and The Great Resignation
Take This Job and Shove It
2021 has been the year of the Great Resignation and in September a record number of people quit their jobs. 4.4 million to be exact. Who knew that a global pandemic would have been the spark that a lot of people needed to stop putting up with crappy jobs? Granted, it is a lot easier said than done but my hat's off to anyone who made the decision that their health (mental or otherwise) was more important than a job.
Supergirl Takes Flight One Last Time
Earlier this week, the Supergirl series finale aired on The CW, culminating a six-season run that started on CBS in 2015. Starring Melissa Benoist as the titular heroine, the show was always filled with heart and strong messaging. Unfortunately, in the last two seasons, the show's heart was overshadowed by some pretty mediocre to outright lousy writing that hindered the cast's herculean attempts to make it work. All of that having been said, the show stuck the landing with the return of many familiar faces from Supergirl's six-year run to a final scene that made perfect sense for the character and her development while providing the viewer with an emotionally satisfying conclusion.
Despite its flaws, I will miss Supergirl and look forward to seeing what her cast and crew does next.
One Band, 5 Songs
This week’s podcast covered my favorite band to ever come from Oklahoma, the mighty Roustabouts! I first saw the Roustabouts when they opened for the Hudson Falcons and The GC5 at the Music Dimensions location on N. Western in OKC in either 1999 or 2000 and have been a fan ever since. Not only that, I’ve been lucky enough to call these fine gentlemen friends for over 20 years.
One Band, 5 Songs is exclusively available on Spotify and is waiting for your earholes right now!
Next week, we’re diving into the career of one of Ireland’s most legendary bands. (No not that one.)
Big Bird Gets the Fauci Ouchie...
And as expected, some people lost their sh*t.
At this point, it’s just sad seeing people overreact to pretty much everything.
And Now I Feel Better About Being That Guy Who Asks All the Questions
Pick of the Week: Crossover # 9 by Donny Cates, Geoff Shaw, Dee Cunniffe, and John J. Hill
This issue is the second part of the second storyline of this Image Comics series and it is freaking brilliant! How often is the ninth issue of a comic one of its best? Here’s the blurb from Image —
“MEANWHILE” Part Two
The hunt is on! Ellie and Ryan continue their deadly ride along with two of comics' finest as the brutal comic superstar slayings continue! What beloved comic book creator will die next?! Is it me? Could be!! It's a bloodbath over here, kids! Fun!
I am pretty new to Image Comics, and non-DC/Marvel Comics in general, so I am not as intimately familiar with a lot of the references and easter eggs but at this point, it doesn’t matter. Donny Cates and company have created such a compelling world and story that it has truly transcended the cool stuff happening in the background.
I knew from the moment I cracked open issue # 1 of Crossover that I reading something special and now nine issues deep it feels like the best is yet to come.
That’s It for Now
Stay safe out there and…
