I was going to write up something about comics and kids based on this excellent piece from The Beat, but life got in the way. Go give it a read. And while you’re at it, go and check out this excellent piece by Hugo Reyes Tracing The Roots of Indie Punk. Reyes does a tremendous job digging into this relatively new sub-genre classification with history, references, and analysis. Thanks to Punk Lotto Pod for the find. Speaking of Indie Punk, here is one of my favorites from the genre.
Nailed It!
I love DC Comics and I couldn’t agree more with Mr. Gallaher’s sentiment. I don’t know what needs to be done but they really are becoming kind of a joke.
Oh Damn...
In case you are unfamiliar with the situation Mr. Hause is referencing, read this.
I Can't Square This Circle
Recently I heard a podcast host say that Joe Rogan should be de-platformed. This, moments after a conversation about the controversy surrounding Maus. How does that work? How does one decide which kind of speech should be protected and which should be suppressed?
For the record, I firmly believe that platforms like Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and yes even Spotify have the right to remove people from their service for violating the terms of service. It's the calling for the silencing of people that gives me the heebee jeebees.
I Haven't Hated a Class This Much in Years
In fact, I haven't hated a class or school situation as much as I do this semester since I was probably 19, 20 years old. I'm currently taking one of the core classes in this program. It's online and it is obvious that all of the sections use the case syllabus, text, lecture notes, and materials, no matter who is "teaching" it. I'm not completely opposed to that idea but when someone can't even be bothered to update the dates and links within each module. Case in point. The screenshot below was taken on February 6, 2022, yet according to this module, the due dates were in September of 2021.
WTH?!? And that is just one of the MANY unbelievably annoying things about this class.
I'm starting to realize that while I love learning and love education, I kind of hate academia.
That’s It…
I’m out.
Indie Punk, Circles Squared, and Trades from Brooklyn to Philly...Oh My
On the Rohan thing, there are studies dating him going to Spotify actually cost him listeners. I think they need to hold him accountable for the actually damaging information he puts out on his show, but overall keep him in that corner of the internet
I too loved that article from THE BEAT!
