Little did I know, back in 2020 when I decided to check out the first season of Star Trek: Picard that it would reignite my love of that better future in the final frontier. Now, as I sit here having just watched the show’s series finale, I feel…
Star Trek has played a big part in my life since I was young. I watched the original series in syndication and saw all but one of the original cast’s films in the theaters (for reference, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan was released in 1982 when I was 7). I watched the series premiere of Star Trek: The Next Generation when it debuted in 1987 and followed it for the majority of its seven-year run. At some point in my teenage years, I became more interested in other things (music) and Trek slipped by the wayside.
After watching the first season of Picard, I started going through all of the series with a complete re-watch of The Next Generation, followed by Deep Space Nine, Voyager, Discovery, and Enterprise (though I have stalled out in season 3 of The Original Series). I have followed Lower Decks, Strange New Worlds, and Prodigy religiously and I’ve re-watched all of the movies at least once.
The series finale of Picard was cathartic, heartwarming, and felt like a reunion of friends and family, all while setting up the potential for something new (PLEASE let #StarTrekLegacy happen!!!). The show made me cry, filled me up with great joy, and left me feeling emotionally exhausted. It was wonderful! This cast of characters, who I look up to and admire greatly, has been a part of my life for more than 35 years and to see their story come to an end was perfect.
Thank you, everyone. You have inspired me, enriched me, and shown me what it means to be a good leader. More than that, you have given me hope and made my life better. May the voyage never end…
To Boldly Go...
Great read!
